Natural Resource Protection & Sustainability Manager 1 - Recreation Program Manager:

As the Recreation Program Manager, you will assist with developing and executing strategic goals and objectives of the State Forest’s Recreation, Education & Interpretation Program. SignificanttimewillbespentattheNWOAoffice,inthevicinityoftheTillamookandClatsopState Forests, Santiam State Forest, andinSalem. Duties Include:

Ensure the recreation program reaches its operational and programmatic goals across the GPV spectrum.
Oversee and manage the recreation program.
Develop work procedures and project work schedules.
Monitor work through subordinates to meet established goals, objectives and target dates.
Develop policies and internal workflows to increase efficiencies.
Program planning and coordination with other forest disciplines.
Assist in preparing fiscal year and biennial budget requests, and Policy Option Packages/Legislative Concepts.
Perform supervisory functions for overall recreation program staff; evaluate subordinates performance, and recommend personnel actions to ensure adequate and competent staffing.
Maintain overall inventory of recreational equipment & infrastructure.
Coordinate and provide critical data and inputs for future Agency-wide forest management plans (HCP/FMP/IP).
Work collaboratively with TFC Director; Planning Unit, Resource Support Unit, Asset Unit, Information Unit, SF District staff; and South Fork Camp Manager to meet recreation goals.
Lead efforts on visitor use research and on-going monitoring and compliance with Agency policies.

Here is what you need to Qualify:

Five years of lead work, supervision, or progressively related experience in a natural resource related field

Two years of related experience and a bachelor’s degree in a specialized field of study: recreation management, planning, or natural resources management.

Note: Driver’s License Check - This position requires the operation of a state vehicle for the purpose of conducting official State business. If your license is from outside Oregon, you must submit at least a three-year court/DMV printout. If you have an Oregon driver’s license, a record check will be conducted on top candidate to ensure a valid license and acceptable driving record.

Desired Skills:

Basic knowledge of the theory and principles of natural resource management.
Experience with personnel management including discipline, work plans, scheduling, hiring, and establishing daily work priorities.
Skill communicating verbally and in writing with a variety of people to answer questions and explain information.
Ability to make decisions on the need, location, design, resource impact and cost of improvements such as trails, trailheads, campgrounds, day use areas, and other facilities.
Ability to make decisions on the level and timing of facility maintenance.
Ability to make decisions on public use policies and levels and type of public involvement needed.
Ability to occasionally work efficiently, primarily in the field, in an arduous, challenging, outdoor work environment.
