VAES.ai

We are a tech startup that is being incubated in the technology lab of e.construct and we employ technology to empower and eventually transform engineering. VAES’s mission is to reduce the amount of raw materials we design in our buildings and bridges by using optimization algorithms and machine learning.

VAES consists of a team of software developers, civil engineers, machine learning experts, architects and graphic designers that builds tools that engineers can use to design and manufacture the next generation of cities.

Role Summary

The Environmental Research & Projects coordinator will report to Director of Innovation and will provide research and coordination support on various projects. They will work effectively in both independent and inter-professional team environments. Responsibilities will include conducting research for developing visualizations, providing administrative support and support with coordinating collaborative projects. There will be an emphasis on two major topics:

1- Research that includes sustainability, climate change and the built environment.

2- Technology related to building our cities.

Responsibilities

- Research on sustainability, built environment, innovation in tech and engineering.
- Support the coordination of collaborative projects under leadership of the Director.
- Work along e.construct Project Manager to develop an editorial strategy and maintain a workplan for visual production.
- Conduct exploratory research and develop into high-quality briefs as a basis for designers to create visual prototypes.
- Coordinate internally with the production team to facilitate reviews and feedback on visual projects.
- Communicate externally to partner organizations to collaborate and solicit feedback and coordinate services.
- Review and fact-check final e.construct visual outputs including interactives, presentations and web outputs.
- Build and document e.construct creative culture through documentation of iterations and process mapping.
- Support outreach with universities and talent.
- Coordinate project management activities, resources, equipment and information
- Schedule meetings and ensure all participants are available.
- Act as the point of contact and communicate project status to all participants

Requirements

- Work experience in analytical research 2-5+ years.
- A degree in either research, sustainability, engineering, humanities, or similar.
- Strong research and writing skills.
- Ability to self-manage and maintain a prioritization system for short and long-term projects and day-to-day tasks.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, with a sensitivity for competing deadlines.
- Strong communications abilities, verbal and written.
- Ability to think laterally, identifying compelling visual storytelling analogies and unexpected data sources.
- Independent - capable of following directions but does not require constant supervision.
- Willing to refine tasks repeatedly based on team feedback until goals have been met.
- Proficiency in written and spoken English.

Desired

- Familiarity with data and elementary data visualization tools (e.g. Tableau, RAW).
- To be passionate about sustainability.
- Visual communication skills.
- Experience with spreadsheets.
- Arabic proficiency (additional languages a plus).
- Prior research and project coordination experience.
- Leadership positions in student activities.
