Ebb Carbon is a climate and ocean-health restoration company. Our mission is to remove gigatons of CO2 from the air, while reducing ocean acidification to restore a healthier planet for generations to come. We remove carbon dioxide from the air by accelerating the ocean’s natural ability to capture and durably store carbon dioxide. Our electrochemical approach reduces ocean acidity and has the potential to be one of the largest scale and lowest cost approaches to removing excess CO2.

About the role:

We are looking for an Intern in Marine or Environmental Science. You’ll support the engineering and oceanography teams by conducting laboratory experiments to support Ebb Carbon’s development of electrochemical ocean alkalinity enhancement. Most of the work will be done at Ebb Carbon facilities in San Carlos, CA or Burlingame, CA with some travel to field sites possible.

What You’ll Do:

Execute experiments around ocean alkalinity enhancement methods
Report results to internal stakeholders
Assess time-series data from oceanographic sensor systems including pH, pCO2, and TA data
Contribute to the development of novel seawater carbon sensor systems
Maintain lab equipment and wet chemical test benches

What You'll Need:

Bachelor of Science degree
Master of Science degree in: Oceanography, Marine Sciences, Environmental Chemistry, Environmental Engineering, or similar. Candidates nearing completion will be considered.
Experience with ocean time-series data
A sense of humor

Bonus:

Startup experience ideal, startup mentality a must; someone who is scrappy and gets things done
Direct experience measuring ocean carbonate chemistry through sensors and/or titrations: pH, pCO2, TA, DIC
Experience with data aggregation and/or data science
Experience in statistics and time-series data processing
Interest and experience in novel sensor design
