Manufacturing & Engineering Internship – Environmental Analyses by GC-MS

We are looking for you, an ambitious 3rd of 4th year BSc student in Analytical Chemistry (m/f), to support our Environmental Analytical group by doing an internship project in GC-FID/MS for environmental applications for our location in Terneuzen, Netherlands.

Project description

Characterizing the composition of industrial wastewater and identifying potential pollutants is of great environmental relevance, as it allows for the assessment of the environmental impact of wastewater discharge. Utilizing Gas chromatography (GC) coupled with a Flame Ionization Detector (FID) and a Mass Selective Detector (GC-MSD) provides a powerful tool for quantifying and identifying pollutants in the ug/L range. Different sample concentration and sample introduction technologies can be used to lower the limit of detection. The intern will work together with other analytical technologist and specialists on a project to identify and quantify organic and inorganic components in a variety of environmental matrices.

Qualifications

You are currently studying for a BSc degree or equivalent in Analytical or Environmental Chemistry
You have a good working knowledge of English
You have a basic knowledge of analytical technologies and at minimum a few years practical lab experience during school practica.
You are interested in environmental chemistry
You have a VCA certificate

You can start in September 2023 for a period of 5-6 months (exact timing to be discussed).
