We have a number of exciting opportunities for staff with a range of skills to join the Private Sector Housing Team.

This is an exciting time to be working in Croydon. Croydon Council is also building back from declaring a S114 notice last year, and we are having to work innovatively, build partnerships and strengthen ties with local communities, businesses, and wider society, working towards a more sustainable and inclusive future for the whole borough.

Croydon is determined to improve the borough’s large private rented sector.To reduce anti-social behaviour, improve property management, and improve housing conditions and make it a respected tenure.It is a diverse sector being the home of a wide range of residents, many vulnerable.As Croydon has over 40,000 privately rented properties, with a high number containing a significant hazards, we need a team of enthusiastic and self-motivated officers to help deliver our highly ambitious aims.

Have you the skills, experience and enthusiasm to meet the challenge presented to improve housing conditions for the people of Croydon?Can you bring experience of enforcement work, working in partnership with landlords and tenants, knowledge of building construction and dealing with challenging situations?If you are self-motivated and enthusiastic, with a keen desire to make a difference, you’re just who we need to join our team of dedicated professional officers.

We are looking for people who know about fire safety, housing disrepair and remedial works through training or experience, and who have an understanding of the housing health and safety rating system and other relevant legislation used in housing enforcement.Whilst practical experience of enforcement is desirable, full training will be given to officers, especially those that are new into the area of work and demonstrate an enthusiasm to learn.

You will be able to manage your own case load, be enforcement minded and demonstrate excellent customer care skills as you will be dealing with members of the public on a daily basis.As well as practical field work, the role includes data inputting and preparation of letters and notices so IT skills will be an advantage.
