The Position

This position is responsible for the technical underwriting and portfolio management of Renewable Energy risks within the Retail Energy Business Unit. Programs may be on either a guaranteed cost or loss sensitive casualty basis.

Job Responsibilities

Position Responsibilities:

The role will work with the EVP, Retail Energy to set strategy, guidelines, and parameters for the Renewable Energy portfolio. This includes Underwriting Guidelines, Treaty Discussions, Form Development, Risk Control and Claim needs. Additional responsibilities include appointing and working with retail brokers and agents to attract, service, and retain the portfolio. This is a management position with direct reports.

Key Competencies:

Portfolio management skills to set underwriting strategy and direction
Technical acumen to build internal and external plans for underwriting of renewable energy risks
Collaborates with Risk Control and Claims to anticipate any unique needs of Renewable Energy risks
Assesses insurance and related financial risk and structures appropriate loss sensitive program to effectively protect against frequency, severity, catastrophic and credit risk
Negotiates and places facultative reinsurance when applicable
Collaborates with other Arch units where appropriate to deliver a holistic customer insurance solution
Identifies all potential exposures and hazards in relation to coverage requested and individual risk characteristics
Ability to underwrite, price and prepare proposals based on objective and subject risk characteristics, input of internal resource team, existing product set and regulatory filings
Responsible for renewal and retention management and manages the renewal process to achieve targeted retention and price change goals
Initiates, coordinates and conducts periodic portfolio reviews
Develop, expand, and enhance broker and client relationships through high visibility and frequent engagement
Build for the future regarding staff development
Develop a culture consistent with Retail Energy and Arch’s direction and strategy

Desired Skills/Experience

Knowledge of coverage terms - Workers Compensation, General Liability and Automobile Liability, Umbrella and associated 1st party lines of Contractors Equipment and Property
Knowledge of renewable energy industry exposures and dynamics
Able to adapt to underwriting to changing nature of the energy industry and maintain proficiency of energy insurance knowledge
Knowledge of guaranteed cost, large deductible, retrospective, self insured and single parent captive insurance programs
Understanding and knowledge of exposure identification and analysis
Possess a cross functional generalist knowledge of other disciplines including claims, risk control, audit, premium accounting, finance and legal
Knowledge of regulatory and compliance issues
Sales and Negotiation skills
Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously
Have the ability to influence without authority and be willing to work in a collaborative and team environment
Strong customer service, negotiation and presentation skills
Hands-on experience and strong aptitude with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word
Excellent written/verbal communication and organizational skills
Ability to work well in a team environment
At least 10 years of related experience

Education

College degree preferred
