SUMMARY

Work in office and manufacturing environments to plan and implement projects and communications that will prevent injuries and ensure regulatory compliance.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

Project:

Develop safety layout for new plant under construction including evacuation maps, fire extinguishers, first aid, and eye wash maps for installers.

Support other safety initiatives to support Iowa and Utah plants including machine guarding, risk assessments of guards, ergonomic survey of tasks involving pushing/pulling, including force measurements, create an inventory of static control measures and devices on production equipment, and assist with lockout-tagout procedures.
Support and follow all plant safety rules, GMPs, and other procedural training requirements
Other duties as assigned

Optional assignments to be determined based on qualifications of the candidate:

Identify and implement ways to make safety training more interesting and engaging
Liaison with safety teams
Assist with environmental system improvements as part of ISO 9001
Create safety communication postings
Recommend modifications of existing programs and internal standards you work with, to achieve improvements in safety and/or environmental compliance
Conduct NYSDEC, USEPA and OSHA regulatory research as directed

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS: An individual must be able to perform the Duties and Responsibilities satisfactorily with guidance from the HSE Manager. Position requires self-motivation, a strong work ethic, and ability to take responsibility for work assigned and deadlines. Training or orientation to certain tasks will be provided where an otherwise-qualified candidate has no prior knowledge or experience.

Experience in CAD a plus!

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Two years of college education including HSE coursework.

SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as regulations, training documents, and written plans and procedures. Ability to write routine work reports and correspondence. Ability to work in PowerPoint, Excel and Word. Ability to speak effectively to groups of employees.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment will include office and manufacturing areas. This internship will include projects that involve working in close proximity to production machinery. This will require the employee to wear personal protective equipment for hearing and eyes, and to maintain awareness of the manufacturing process and physical hazards such as moving hoists and forklifts.
